Grok is an artificial intelligence assistant developed by xAI, aiming to provide users with real-time information, answer questions and generate content. Since its launch in 2023, Grok has gradually opened to users through the X platform and independent applications. For iPhone users, using Grok can be achieved through integration functions within the X app, or through independent Grok apps (if already online). Here are detailed guides to help you take advantage of Grok's capabilities on your iPhone.
Before using Grok on your iPhone, you need to prepare the following:
X Account : Grok was originally built-in as a feature of X platform and must have an X account.
X app : Make sure your X app is updated to the latest version (such as iOS 10.56 or higher) to support the latest features of Grok.
Subscription permissions (optional):
Free users: From December 2024, Grok is open to all X users for free, and can be used for a certain number of times every 2 hours (such as 10 conversations or image generation).
X Premium/Premium+ Users: Subscriptions are $8/month or $16/month respectively, offering unlimited use and priority experience new features such as Grok 3 or Aurora image generation.
Grok standalone app : xAI has launched the iOS version of Grok app, which can be downloaded from the App Store.
Device requirements : iOS 13.0 or higher, ensure your iPhone model (such as iPhone 8 and above) supports it.
If you have not downloaded a standalone application or are more accustomed to operating through the X platform, you can use Grok as follows:
Download or update X app :
Open the App Store, search for "X", download or update to the latest version.
Log in to account X :
Log in with your X username and password.
Enter the Grok interface :
On the main interface of X app, click the menu on the left (three horizontal lines next to the avatar).
Find the "Grok" option (which may appear as an AI icon or a chat icon) and click to enter.
If you do not see the Grok entrance, you can enter "Grok" in the search bar and follow the @xAI account to obtain guidance.
Get started :
Enter a question or request in the chat window, such as "What is the headline today?" or "Generate a picture of a future city."
Click Send (paper airplane icon) and wait for Grok to reply.
If the Grok standalone app is already online on the App Store (launched as of February 2025), this is a more direct way:
Download the Grok app :
Open the App Store and search for "Grok" or "xAI Grok".
Click "Get" and install (approximately 50-100MB, depending on the version).
Log in or register :
Open the app, log in with your X account (recommended), or select Apple ID to log in (if supported).
Some functions can be used without an X account, but the full experience requires X to be bound.
Setting up the AI model :
After entering the application, Grok 3 (Beta version) is used by default. Other versions (such as Grok 2) can be switched to the top model selector.
Start interacting :
Enter text in the main interface, or click the "+" icon to select functions (such as image generation, file upload).
Grok offers a variety of practical features on iPhone:
Text dialogue :
Enter a question or task, such as “explain quantum mechanics” or “write a poem.”
Supports Chinese, but English prompts may be more accurate.
Image generation (Aurora model):
In the X application: enter "Generate an XX picture", and Grok will confirm the intention first.
In standalone app: Click "+" > "Create Image", enter a description (such as "A Flying Unicorn"), and generate 4 images in a few seconds.
DeepSearch mode :
After entering the query, select the "DeepSearch" option, and Grok will search for network and X data to provide detailed answers.
Think mode :
For complex problems (such as mathematics or science), Grok demonstrates the reasoning process.
File upload (exclusive to standalone application):
Click "+" > Upload an image or PDF, and Grok can analyze the content.
Optimization prompt words : Describe the requirements in detail, such as "generate a cartoon-style picture of a cat dancing on the moon".
Adjustment result : If you are not satisfied, reply "try again" or modify the description.
Voice input : Click the microphone icon on the iPhone keyboard to enter the problem with voice.
Sharing function : The generated content can be shared to X with one click, and click the "X" icon below the result.
Usage limit :
Free user: 10 times every 2 hours.
Premium+ User: Unlimited.
Network requirements : Stable Wi-Fi or 4G/5G connection is required.
Privacy settings :
Go to Settings & Privacy > Privacy & Security > Grok > Uncheck “Allow My Data to train Grok”.
By default, your X posts and interactions may be used to train Grok. Can be turned off in X settings:
Functional limitations : Image editing is not supported for the time being, only for generation and text analysis.

Enter : "What's the weather in Washington today?"
Grok replied : "As of March 3, 2025, the weather in Washington is expected to be sunny with a temperature of 1-7°C. Do you need a detailed forecast? I can check the latest posts on X."

Enter : "Generate a picture of a cyberpunk-style astronaut on Mars."

Enter : "What is the trend of AI development recently?" (Select DeepSearch)
