Trump recently announced a new plan at the White House called "the largest AI infrastructure project in history" to establish a US$500 billion joint venture, with participants including OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank. The new partnership, called Stargate, aims to build a network of data centers and computing infrastructure in the United States to advance the development of artificial intelligence.
Trump said the project is expected to create more than 100,000 American jobs "almost immediately." He pointed out that this initiative is not only a statement of confidence in the U.S. economy, but also a strategic move to seek advantages in competition with China and other countries. At the announcement site, Trump attended with Oracle founder Larry Ellison, SoftBank Chairman Masayoshi Son, and OpenAI’s Sam Altman.
Trump revealed he would use the emergency declaration to speed up projects, particularly in energy infrastructure. "We have to get these things built, they require a lot of electricity, and we'll make them easy to produce in their own factories," he stressed.
The launch of the project coincides with Trump's return to the presidency and marks a major shift in U.S. policy on artificial intelligence. Just a day earlier, Trump revoked former President Joe Biden's more than 100 pages of executive orders on AI security standards and content watermarks, signaling that he would take a different strategy to manage artificial intelligence.
While the investment is large, it is in line with broad market forecasts. Financial company Blackstone has earlier predicted that U.S. investment in data centers will reach $1 trillion in the next five years. Trump emphasized that this project is a declaration of confidence from his administration and shows that the United States has the potential to make new progress during his term.
Currently, new data center sites are being evaluated across the country, with initial projects beginning in Texas. This "Stargate" project is not only a major investment by the United States in the field of artificial intelligence, but also heralds the future development direction of the Trump administration in the technology industry.
