Codeium launches Windsurf Wave 3 version to support model context protocol

Codeium officially released the latest version of the AI-driven Windsurf editor - Windsurf Wave3. This update introduces several new features and improvements designed to enhance the functionality and user experience of the editor, especially to provide better support for developers and teams to leverage AI in their workflows.

The most eye-catching new feature in Windsurf Wave3 is support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Cascade, the core AI workflow system of Windsurf Editor, can now be integrated with external data sources, and users can configure in Windsurf settings through standardized MCP servers, allowing Cascade to access and utilize structured data as a tool in its workflow. This feature is currently only available to individual users, and support from team and enterprise users will also be launched in the near future.

In addition to MCP support, Windsurf Wave3 also adds the "Tab-to-jump" function, so users can use the "Tab" key to easily move the cursor to the recommended position in the code. All users can now enjoy unlimited autocompletion and supercompletion advice, while paid users can get unlimited Tab jump advice and "fast mode" for performance improvements.

Another highlight is the Turbo mode, which Cascade now enables autonomous execution of terminal commands without user confirmation, which greatly simplifies the iteration process. In addition, users can drag and drop images directly into the editor, simplifying workflows involving multiple inputs, such as website building or design conversion.

For paid users of macOS, Windsurf Wave3 also provides the ability to customize application icons, allowing users to personalize their editors.

In terms of model support, this update integrates new models such as DeepSeek-v3, DeepSeek-R1, o3-mini and Gemini2.0Flash, providing different performance and cost-effectiveness. Meanwhile, the pre-release version of Windsurf is also open to early users for them to test new features before the stable release is launched.
