Google raises Workspace price and makes AI functions available for free

At a recent press conference, Google announced that it would integrate all AI features into its Workspace service, and users can use the new features in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Meet at no additional cost. However, the monthly cost of Workspace will increase by $2, with the standard plan costing $12 to $14 per user.

This change is designed to simplify Workspace users' access to AI tools, including email summarization, automated note-taking, interaction with the Gemini chatbot, and more. Previously, users who wanted to use all AI features had to pay an additional $20 per month for Gemini for Workspace in addition to the $12 Workspace Business Standard plan. Users can now enjoy these new features by paying just $14 for the Standard plan.

For new customers, the new pricing policy is effective immediately, while existing customers will see fee changes after March 17, 2025. It’s worth mentioning that small business customers are currently exempt from this price adjustment.

For those users who have purchased the Gemini for Workspace add-on service, Google said they will continue to have access to these features and the subscription fee will no longer be charged after January 31, 2024.

The latest update is part of Google's fierce battle with rivals such as Microsoft. Microsoft bundled its Copilot Pro AI capabilities with Microsoft 365's standard subscription in November last year, further increasing its competitiveness in the market.

This move by Google not only makes it easier for its Workspace users to access advanced AI tools, but also shows the company's determination to seek a larger market share in the current technology competition landscape.
