Hugging Face's FastRTC is designed to simplify the construction process of WebRTC and Websocket applications. Freddy Boulton, one of the creators of FastRTC, said: "In Python, it was very difficult to build real-time WebRTC and Websocket applications, and it has not changed until now." WebRTC technology allows direct audio, video and data sharing between browsers without downloading plug-ins or software. However, while WebRTC is crucial in modern voice assistants and video tools, implementing this technology has always been a specialized skill that most machine learning engineers do not have.

Nowadays, with the rapid development of voice AI, this problem has become increasingly prominent. Many companies such as ElevenLabs, Kyutai and Alibaba have received a lot of financing and support in this area, but there is still a disconnect between technology infrastructure and high-end AI models. Hugging Face notes that many machine learning engineers may not be familiar with the technology needed to build real-time applications, and FastRTC was born to address this challenge.

FastRTC handles complex parts of real-time communication through automation functions, providing a variety of functions such as voice detection, rotational speaking ability, testing interface, and temporary telephone number generation. Developers can now create basic real-time audio applications with just a few lines of code, a change that contrasts with the weeks before development. This shift is of great significance to businesses, where existing Python developers can leverage existing Python developers to build voice and video AI capabilities without the need for dedicated communication engineers.

The launch of FastRTC coincides with a major change in the AI industry. It breaks the barriers between advanced AI models and real-time applications, meaning a more natural user interaction interface is coming. Users will be able to experience smoother applications and businesses can implement features their customers are increasingly looking forward to more quickly. The launch of FastRTC will bring many capabilities that were previously required to achieve by professional teams, facilitating more voice-first and video-enhanced AI experiences.
