OpenAI is planning a major integration plan that will change the way users interact with their AI tools. According to company leadership’s disclosure at a Discord office hours conference on Friday, Sora, a high-profile AI video generation tool, will eventually integrate directly into the popular ChatGPT platform.

Rohan Sahai, head of Sora's product, confirmed the strategic direction, saying the company is "actively studying" a plan to combine Sora with ChatGPT, although he declined to disclose a specific implementation timetable. This move is intended to expand Sora's application scenarios and enhance its creative capabilities.

Currently, Sora is only used as a standalone web application for users, which was launched in December last year and allows users to generate high-quality video clips up to 20 seconds. Sahai explained that part of the reason for launching Sora as a separate application is to keep the ChatGPT interface simple.

It is worth noting that ChatGPT integrated Sora may not provide the same level of control functionality as standalone web applications. In current web applications, users can perform video editing and splicing operations, and the integrated version may simplify these functions.

This integration move is seen as a strategy for OpenAI to attract users to use ChatGPT more frequently, while potentially incentivizing users to upgrade to ChatGPT's advanced subscription tier, which may provide higher quotas for video generation.

In addition to the ChatGPT integration plan, OpenAI also expands the scope of Sora's application in many aspects:

Mobile App Development: Sahai said the company is "happy to build" a standalone mobile app for Sora, and revealed that the Sora team is actively recruiting mobile engineers. Image Generation Capability: OpenAI is developing an AI image generator powered by Sora, which will complement the existing DALL-E3 model. It is believed that Sora-supported image generators may allow users to create more realistic photos. Model Upgrade: The company is also developing a new version of Sora Turbo, which currently provides technical support for Sora network applications.

Since its launch, OpenAI has expanded Sora's web experience, providing users with more ways to browse community-generated video content, demonstrating the company's determination to continue to invest in this technology.
