LG Electronics develops AI humanoid robot, subscription model will lead future home applications

During the 2025 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), LG Electronics announced its official entry into the military robot market, launching a self-developed robot to challenge its leading competitors in the field of AI robots. "Robots are undoubtedly the key to the future of humanity, and (LG Electronics) is developing humanoid robots for families and is at the forefront of robot research and development," LG Electronics CEO Cho Joo-wan said at a press conference.

Previously, LG Electronics has launched service robots including LG CLOi ServeBot and GuideBot. These robots mainly rely on wheeled designs. Although their mobility is guaranteed, their flexibility is relatively limited. However, the intelligent Q9 launched by LG Electronics this time will become its new humanoid robot base model and is expected to be released later this year.

LG Electronics is preparing to compete with local rivals such as Hyundai Motor Group and Samsung Electronics, which have invested heavily in humanoid robot research and development and also plan to launch similar bipedal AI robots designed to imitate the human form and interact with Humans work together to increase productivity.

Kim Byung-hun, vice president and chief technology officer of LG Electronics, revealed that LG is researching some key technologies that are crucial to the development of humanoid robots. For example, gesture control and gait recognition technology will be applied to Q9, combined with cognitive and joint action technology to further enhance the intelligence level of the robot. The Q9 is expected to be tested in February and March, followed by further optimization.

In addition, LG Electronics announced a strategic cooperation with Microsoft. The two parties will work together to promote the innovation of AI technology and develop smart bodies including Q9, which are suitable for various environments such as homes, vehicles, hotels and offices. LG said it plans to launch Q9 through a subscription model and integrate it with its own AI smart home platform LG ThinQ to provide more users with an experience.

It is reported that Q9 is expected to be released in South Korea in September. This move by LG Electronics marks its further layout in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics, and also demonstrates its ambitions in the global AI robot market.
