Meta is driving a revolutionary technological change. According to the Financial Times, Meta Vice President of Product Connor Hayes revealed that the company’s AI-generated virtual character system is accelerating development, and these virtual characters will play an increasingly important role in future social platforms.

Since launching its AI character creation tool in July last year, Meta has successfully incubated hundreds of thousands of virtual characters. Although these characters are currently private, they will gradually come into public view in the future. According to Hayes' description, these AI characters will have personalized profiles , including customized avatars, content creation and sharing functions. In the future, the interactivity between virtual characters and real user accounts will be as good as that of real users.

In order to promote the development of this technology, Meta will further increase investment in AI technology as one of its core strategies in the next two years. Currently, Meta already allows users to use AI tools to edit pictures and create virtual assistants, and plans to launch text-to-video generation tools to help creators produce AI video content.

However, this ambitious plan has also raised concerns in the industry. Becky Owen, chief marketing officer of Billion Dollar Boy, pointed out that virtual characters lack real emotions and life experience, which may affect the quality of content on the platform. At the same time, experts also warn that in the absence of effective supervision, AI roles may exacerbate the spread of false information .

To this end, Meta has taken some initial steps to require that all AI-generated content must be clearly labeled "AI Information" to enhance transparency. In addition, Meta also stated that users will be able to create and interact with these AI characters based on personal interests, and virtual characters will be widely used in practical and entertainment scenarios.

Although Meta continues to increase its investment in the field of AI, CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted that the actual returns of this technology may take several years to appear. But he also emphasized that in the long run, this strategy will bring significant returns to the company and investors.
