Microsoft prepares for GPT-4.5 and GPT-5: OpenAI's new generation AI model is about to be released

Recently, a source revealed that Microsoft is actively preparing for the upcoming new OpenAI model - GPT-4.5 and GPT-5. According to OpenAI CEO Sam Atman, GPT-4.5 will be officially launched in weeks, while Microsoft expects to host the new AI model as early as next week. GPT-4.5, codenamed "Orion", is the next generation model of OpenAI and the company's last non-chain-of-thought model. Industry insiders pointed out that the capabilities of GPT-4.5 are expected to significantly surpass its predecessor GPT-4.

However, the focus is not only on GPT-4.5, Microsoft is also looking forward to the arrival of GPT-5. According to reports, GPT-5 is expected to be released at the end of May, which is in line with Atman's previous commitment, and he said the next generation model will be released within a few months. It is worth noting that the GPT-5 is probably the most varied of these two models, which Atman calls “a system that integrates many of our technologies.” In addition, GPT-5 will include OpenAI's new o3 inference model, which was previously announced at the December Christmas event.

OpenAI recently released the o3-mini, but plans to no longer launch the o3 model separately, but integrate it into the GPT-5 system. This move reflects OpenAI's goal to integrate its large language models to ultimately create a more powerful model called Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
