Merger Acquisition

Artificial intelligence chip giant Nvidia recently acquired San Diego-based startup Gretel, with a transaction amount of nine figures, surpassing Gretel's recent valuation of $320 million. Founded in 2019, Gretel focuses on developing a platform for generating synthetic AI training data, and its technology will be integrated into Nvidia's Generative AI Services Suite.

Gretel is co-founded by Alex Watson, Laszlo Bock, John Myers and Ali Golshan, with Ali Golshan as CEO. Gretel had received more than $67 million in venture capital before its acquisition. The acquisition will merge its approximately 80 employees into Nvidia, further strengthening Nvidia's technical strength and service capabilities in the field of generative artificial intelligence.

As real-world data gradually dry up, tech giants such as Microsoft, Meta, OpenAI and Anthropic have begun to use synthetic data to train their flagship artificial intelligence models. Nvidia's acquisition is timely and is expected to provide developers with more comprehensive tools and solutions.
