Two years after ChatGPT was launched, many email applications have launched AI writing and summary features to enhance user experience. Recently, the well-known email client Superhuman decided to adopt AI technology to focus on solving the headache-inducing email classification problems in user emails.
Back in 2019, Google launched the Inbox Mail client, trying to classify emails by category. Although this attempt received attention at the time, it ended in a closure. Since then, although some clients, such as Gmail's native applications, have also tried email classification, the results are not satisfactory.
Superhuman's new feature, Auto Label, seeks to change this. This feature can automatically mark emails in categories such as marketing, marketing, social or news, and users can also create custom tags by writing prompts. To improve efficiency, users can also choose to automatically archive certain tags, which can reduce unnecessary email interference.
Rahul Vohra, CEO of Superhuman, said in a call with Crunch that the increasing number of cold and spam feedback from users is a major pain point in current email use. In the past, they relied on spam filtering in Gmail and Outlook, but the results were not ideal. Therefore, Superhuman decided to solve this problem through an independent classification system.
However, it is worth noting that the automatic tag function has certain limitations in the early stages of its launch, and users cannot directly edit the prompts for creating tags. If an existing prompt cannot effectively classify certain emails, users can only create new prompts.
In addition, Superhuman has improved its reminder function, so users can choose to re-view emails that need to be re-replied after a certain period of time. If no reply is received within the set time, the system will automatically present the email to the user to help them follow up in time. At the same time, the system also has AI automatic drafting function, which can provide draft suggestions for follow-up emails based on the user's reply tone and context, which is a "gentle reminder".
Looking ahead, Superhuman plans to integrate more users’ knowledge bases, such as personal websites and Wikipedia pages, to better understand user needs. With access to the user's schedule, Superhuman's AI may be able to automatically reply to certain emails, and even actively send replies that meet the user's set conditions.
Although it will take some time to implement the automatic reply function, the current email classification problem can be solved immediately. With the introduction of the automatic tagging feature, Superhuman will be committed to providing users with a more efficient email processing experience.
