Dartmouth College researchers recently conducted a trial on the AI mental health chatbot Therabot to evaluate its effectiveness in improving mental health. The study involved 106 participants diagnosed with major depression, generalized anxiety disorder and eating disorders, and the trial lasted for four weeks. Therabot actively interacts with users, raises emotional and emotional issues, and encourages users to have in-depth conversations. The results showed that the participants had significant symptoms relief, with an average reduction of 51% in patients with depression, an average reduction of 31% in patients with generalized anxiety disorder, and an average improvement of body image in patients with eating disorders reached 19%. Research shows that Therabot provides support comparable to traditional treatments, especially in the absence of therapeutic resources, which can be an important supplement. The research results were published in the New England Journal of Medicine, providing new ideas for the application of AI in the field of mental health.
