Recently, a federal judge in the Northern District of California rejected Elon Musk's request to prevent OpenAI from transforming into a profitable company. According to Bloomberg, US District Court judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers said Musk failed to provide enough evidence to support his application for the injunction. However, the judge also said the court was preparing to speed up trials on whether OpenAI's transformation plan was illegal, pointing out that "when public funds are used to fund non-profit organizations to transform into profitable institutions, it can cause irreversible harm."

AI, robot fight, fight, fight

The ruling is the latest development in Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman. In the lawsuit, Musk accused OpenAI of betraying its original non-profit mission and failing to benefit everyone from the results of artificial intelligence research. A few weeks ago, Musk also made an informal offer to acquire OpenAI for $97.4 billion, but the OpenAI board of directors unanimously rejected it. Nevertheless, this offer could cause some trouble for OpenAI to adapt to a more traditional company structure in the future.

Currently, OpenAI is facing pressure from Musk and his legal team, whose lawsuit shows he is concerned about the direction the company is heading. OpenAI was once a nonprofit organization with a mission to promote research and application of artificial intelligence, but as the market environment changes, it plans to transform into a profitable company and seek stronger financial support to gain a foothold in the highly competitive field of artificial intelligence.

The judge's ruling and Musk's actions will undoubtedly spark wider discussions in the public and in the industry, especially on the balance between the mission of technology companies, funding operations and social responsibility. In the future, how OpenAI can find the right entry point between maintaining innovation and profitability will become the focus of industry observers.
