A survey by Elon University in the United States showed that 52% of American adults have used AI large language models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.

The survey, conducted by the Center for Imagination of Digital Futures at Elon University in North Carolina, selected 500 respondents. It was found that among people who had used AI, 34% said they would use the large language model at least once a day. Among them, ChatGPT is the most popular, and 72% of respondents have used it; Google's Gemini ranks second with a usage rate of 50%.

More and more people are starting to establish special relationships with AI chatbots. The survey shows that 38% of users believe that large language models can establish deep relationships with humans, and more than half of them have talked to chatbots. About 9% of users use these models for the main purpose of social interaction, such as chatting and seeking company. Users also found that these models can show a variety of personality traits such as confidence, curiosity and even humor.

“These discoveries lay the foundation for the common development of humans and AI systems in the coming years,” Lee Renney, director of the Center for Imagination Digital Futures, said in an interview with NBC News. “These tools are being integrated into daily life in an emotionally and influential way, which will obviously be part of a new chapter in human history.”

The survey also found that 51% of respondents used large language models for personal purposes, not work needs. In work scenarios, respondents will use AI in combination with office software such as Slack, PowerPoint and Zoom to write emails, research ideas and summarize documents, etc. More than half of them believe this improves work efficiency.

However, many respondents are also worried about this technology. 63% believe that the big language model will significantly reduce human communication, and 59% worry that it will lead to a large amount of unemployment. While AI chatbots bring convenience to people's lives and work, it also triggers a series of thoughts. How will it develop in the future is worthy of continuous attention.
