Prime Video experiments with AI dubbing technology to improve accessibility of multilingual content

Amazon's Prime Video recently announced that they are experimenting with a new AI-assisted dubbing technology to improve the accessibility of some undubbed film and television works. This new technology combines the power of artificial intelligence and professional localization teams to ensure the quality and accuracy of dubbing.

The first pilot projects of the project will include 12 videos without previously voice-over support, covering both English and Latin American Spanish.

Among these 12 works are the Spanish cartoon "Elsid: Legend" and the family drama "My Mom's Lola". This move by Prime Video aims to help more viewers enjoy a variety of film and television content through AI dubbing technology, break the language barriers and increase the audience.

In recent years, AI voiceover technology has become increasingly popular in the entertainment industry, and many streaming platforms have begun to adopt this technology to better serve global audiences. For example, Deepdub focuses on AI dubbing, with its customers including Paramount+; and YouTube has made significant investments in this area, recently introducing automatic dubbing to enable creators to translate videos into multiple languages.

In addition to dubbing, Prime Video also provides a series of other AI features to enhance the audience's viewing experience. For example, the "X-Ray Recaps" feature can summarize the content of the entire season and single episodes, allowing viewers to quickly review; "Dialogue Boost" can improve the audio clarity of the conversation and help viewers better hear conversation content that may be difficult to capture.
